Winter Relationship Builder Reflection

December 8, 2025

McClintock Bay Resort, Swan Haven Drive, Marsh Lake, YT, Canada

Winter first aid training, wilderness survival skills, canning vegetables, paracord & hide bracelet making, dreamcatcher crafting, Christmas gift bag prep, group planning & peer-led discussions.

We are pleased to share a reflection from our December 2025 Relationship Builder Event at McClintock Bay Resort, Marsh Lake, YT. Despite extreme winter conditions, the gathering was a meaningful and impactful week for everyone involved. This event brought together 28 participants, including 9 new attendees, making it the largest Relationship Builder event hosted by The Nelson Project to date.

Over the five days from December 8th to 12th, participants focused on building relationships, learning new skills, and supporting one another in a safe and respectful environment. Planned activities included:

  • Skidooing

  • Snowshoeing

  • Fatbiking

  • Ice fishing

Due to extreme cold, with temperatures dropping to -40°C and colder, many of the planned outdoor activities were not able to take place. Participants adapted by focusing on indoor and sheltered activities, group discussions, and participant-led sessions.

Activities that took place during the week included:

  • Winter first aid training

  • Wilderness survival skills

  • Canning vegetables

  • Making paracord and hide bracelets

  • Crafting dreamcatchers

  • Preparing Christmas gift bags

  • Group discussions and planning around future membership within The Nelson Project

This year, the event was supported by a team of eight facilitators, along with five experienced participants serving as a support team. These returning participants took on key roles throughout the week, helping the TNP team run the event smoothly, providing guidance to new participants, and supporting the group in a variety of activities.

Thank you to our participants, facilitators, support team, and organizers for your contributions. Your dedication continues to help The Nelson Project provide safe, engaging, and meaningful Relationship Builder events for men across the Yukon.
