Why did Nelson decide to build The Nelson Project? Having worked in housing for many years, he saw a gap in the system. He felt that the system and society expected men to deal with their own issues, which unfortunately some can’t. He believes that every person has value and deserves the opportunity to build a better life for themselves, their family and their community. Nelson is well known for building programs that provide a non-judgmental and empowering space for people to learn and grow into the people they want to be. He was born in Uranium City, Saskatchewan. Nelson is a member of the Mikisew Cree First Nation from Fort Chipewyan, Alberta. For over 20 years, he worked for the Carcross/Tagish First Nation helping citizens gain access to housing, employment and life skills. He has been a member of numerous boards and committees that created opportunities for people.
